A Real Dialogue: Black Beach/White Beach Ricky Kelly

Hello Port City! On this episode of A Real Dialogue Zach sits down with Ricky Kelly, creator of the film Black Beach/White Beach. Zach caught up with Ricky after the encore screening of his film at the Cucalorus film festival. Black Beach/White Beach was the first film to go to Rush(i.e. Sell out) at the festival.

The film examines two motorcycle festivals that happen within a week of each other in Myrtle Beach, SC. One event is known as Harley week and has a predominantly white crowd. This event is welcomed by the City of Myrtle Beach. The other, much larger event, which occurs during Memorial Day weekend is Atlantic Beach Bike Fest, commonly referred to as “Black Bike Week.” The crowd at this event is primarily African American. Although Memorial Day Weekend is the highest grossing holiday for Myrtle Beach, largely due to Atlantic Beach Bike Fest, the city does not welcome the event.
